Biografía
Dr Álvaro Vives is the Head of the Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) Unit and attending physician of the Andrology Department.
He holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and is a specialist in Andrology since 1999, after training as a resident doctor at Fundació Puigvert.
He was the first andrologist with a Doctor title being trained at Fundació Puigvert with the thesis "Non-invasive approach to urethral condylomas", which was presented in July 2020 and received an "Excellent" qualification. He also holds postgraduate degrees in Prevention and Control of Sexual Transmission and in Andrological Microsurgery from the University of Barcelona (UB).
He has been an advisor to the Health Department on sexually transmitted infections and professor of the "Master's course in International Health and Tropical Medicine" at the University of Barcelona, the "Master's course in Human Sexuality" and the "Master's course in Clinical Sexology and Sexual Health" at the IESP – University of Barcelona.
He currently teaches on the "Master's course in Andrology" at Fundació Puigvert – Universitat de Vic-Universitat Central de Catalunya and on the "Master's course in Reproductive Biology and Assisted Human Reproduction Techniques" at Dexeus.
His main areas of specialisation are the non-invasive approach to urethral condylomas, sexuality, human papillomavirus infection and male infertility.
