About us
Founded in 1961 by Professor Antoni Puigvert i Gorro, Fundació Puigvert is a single-speciality hospital in the fields of urology, nephrology, andrology and reproductive medicine that operates as a privately owned, nonprofit university hospital centre.
We specialise in the study, diagnosis and treatment of pathologies and disorders of urinary and renal systems, of male genital organs and of male and female reproductive systems.
Milestones in our history
With over 60 years of experience, Fundació Puigvert has met numerous challenges in the field of medicine and within its specialities. At present, its urology service is the most active in Spain in relation to healthcare and scientific undertakings. Fundació Puigvert launched in 1955 the first nephrology service in Spain and the first such andrology service in the early 1970s.
Fundació Puigvert was also the first privately owned healthcare institution in Spain to operate under agreements reached with public health authorities for the purpose of implementing technological innovation and the newest surgical techniques used in private healthcare.
Fundació Puigvert also implemented the first live-donor kidney transplant programme and was the first hospital in Spain to use robotic surgery, with its purchase of the first Da Vinci robot in 2005.
Strategic plan 2021–25
Fundació Puigvert’s strategic plan for 2021–25 outlines our process of transformation and gradual development to take place in the coming years to 2025.
It aims to relaunch the medical and societal value of the “Puigvert” brand as a symbol of Spain’s clinical excellence. We are the only single-speciality hospital in Spain that, after over half a century, remains dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of urogenital, renal and reproductive pathologies.
