Research

We are committed to responsible, patient-centred research with a social impact. We promote innovation and citizen engagement.

Our vocation for research

As part of a foundation and as a centre for care, teaching and research, we maintain a full-spectrum vision of our field of specialisation, which contributes to the improvement of quality of life and survival.

Fundació Puigvert promotes research and innovation in the fields of urology, nephrology, andrology and assisted reproduction, with a focus on patient-centred research. Our ultimate goal is to transfer new knowledge to clinical practice, in order to offer the best quality in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the pathologies within our area of expertise. We prioritise quality R&D&I as a means of generating new knowledge with new medical devices, medicines and new surgical techniques, which puts us at the forefront of scientific progress as an internationally renowned and innovative hospital.

We use our privileged position to undertake a wide range of clinical and translational research projects within our fields of research. For these reasons, Fundació Puigvert is considered both a pioneering centre and a landmark in this field. Moreover, our innovative nature also attracts pilot projects and the validation of new treatments, techniques and devices. To this end, as a single-speciality centre, we rely on professionals, laboratories and supraspecialised resources.

Integrated clinical research at the IIB Sant Pau

Fundació Puigvert, together with seven other bodies in the Health Sector, makes up the Sant Pau Biomedical Research Institute (IIB-Sant Pau) since its accreditation in 2011 by the ISCIII. In this environment, Fundació Puigvert is one of the two network nodes of the IIB Sant Pau Biobank within the National Biobank Network. We currently feature three research groups in Nephrology, Urology and Andrology.

We work collaboratively on the implementation of RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation), in order to include the gender perspective, as well as greater citizen participation at all stages of health research projects.

How our R&D&I is organised

Research Support Department

The centre supports quality research. To this end, in 2019, it created the Research Support Department, a service with specialised staff, with the aim of boosting research capacity and the generation of knowledge in our areas of expertise. The Research Support Department works closely with research groups to enable the proper conduct of studies, assisting in the coordination and management of projects, as well as in the monitoring of participating patients and in relations with external promoters.

Lines of research

Fundació Puigvert's R&D&I includes four lines of research covering urological, renal and reproductive pathologies, as well as rare or orphan diseases. All of them are structured around four cross-cutting areas: innovation, personalised medicine, patient-centred research and the gender perspective.
